Ask Annie – Answers and winners!

Hi Guys,

I want to thank you for all the great questions. I wish, I had time to answer all of them. I have picked out 5 questions and will email the winners this weekend. Congratulations to the winners of the RX Smart Gear jump ropes.

Caleb HermanWith your injury, how did you manage to stay positive so you could keep moving forward to make it back to the Games?

I had a mission, which kept motivating me throughout the progress and the hard times. I wanted to show people that you can indeed not only recover, but come back  from an injury like this even stronger.. . but I think the most important thing for me was that I had an amazing group of people supporting me when I was doubting myself.

Mathew CunninghamIf you would compare yourself to an animal, which animal would it be and why?

Interestingly enough, I have never been asked that question. I would say something something like a panther.  They are fast, move well and are good hunters.  Except for when it comes to family, then I would be more like an elephant.  They stay with their family’s for life and seem to really care for each other.

Erika Hayes: I love that you always wear a silver necklace. I am just curious if there is a story behind it and what it means to you?

It is a symbol made out of Icelandic runes.  Each letter in the word Strength is put together and makes up that symbol.  It means a lot to me as it represents my heritage, my roots. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I always have Iceland with me. I have been competing with it since the Games 2010.

Jeanette More: Do you have any family that comes to watch/support and how do you involve them in your journey?

My parents actually both do CrossFit and both my brothers used to as well – one of them has even competed at the Games on a team.  My parents have come to every big CrossFit competition, I have competed in since I started 2009, every Regionals and Games. I don’t think they could have been any more supportive then they have been and they are a huge part of my success. To me it all starts and ends with family.

Etienne Guillou-Kervern: What were your dreams when you were a little girl?

It’s always been sports. Every time I started a new sport I wanted to go all the way.  In gymnastics, I wanted to make the national team.. in ballet, I wanted to become a professional dancer. As a pole vaulter, I wanted to make it to the Olympics.  In CrossFit, I wanted to win the CrossFit Games.  I made the national team, got into the dance academy in Iceland, was the Icelandic champion in pole vaulting for two years, but gave that up as soon as I found CrossFit – finally something that I did not get bored with.  Obviously, I wanted also to become a movie star and all that classic stuff as well 😉

I want to thank you all for the amazing support, it means the world to me. Hope to see you at Games!
