July is the month, the exhalation after a long dive. July is Games. We caught up with our favorite Icelandic CrossFitter, Annie, to hear more about her finale preparations.
Annie, where are you now and what’s going on?
“I arrived in Denmark just a few days ago for my final preparations before Games. Now it is all about fine tuning the engine and trying some of the things that are outside of my comfort zone. I have been training with awkward objects which is both fun and demanding. We will be leaving to LA in three days so then it will be focus on training in the heat and testing the ocean, of course.”
What’s on the menu these days, still crawing Mexican?
“YES! Mexican all year around, making sure I am getting enough carbs to recover since I have bumped up the conditioning volume a bit to get the body used to more of a Games weekend, I am a bit more strict on making sure to get my protein and aminos after training from Nutriforce. Otherwise same as usually, lots of meats, chicken and veggies.”
With Games fast approaching, how are you preparing mentally?
“At this point my days are pretty much mapped out from start to finish to get the most out of my training. It is a period of high intensity. This leaves less time for contemplation, but in general, I try to surround myself with good people and focus on my progress. My back injury in 2013 taught me a lot, among other things that life should be enjoyed, every moment. I therefor try my best to be present in the moment instead of worrying about how I will perform weeks ahead. That being said, I am of course excited about what lies ahead and I do find myself imagining how it will go.”
What does your program look like up to Games?
“I will stay in Denmark with Frederik (Annie’s boyfriend) this week before we travel onward to LA, once we are there it is focus on getting comfortable in the surroundings and final preparations.”
This years edition of the Reebok CrossFit Games commence on the 21st of July. Stay tuned for more updates from Annie.
